Creating From a Heart Fully Open

Spring’s Invitation
August helped us prepare the soil. September invites us to open it. Spring is the season where the heart stretches wide, ready to receive, ready to create, ready to trust the new thing God is growing.
Opening Instead of Preparing
Where August was about readiness, September is about response.
This month, I’m noticing:
• A desire to begin new projects
• A willingness to explore fresh palettes
• A softness in my spirit
• A sense of partnership with God in the creative process
Spring asks us to open... gently, bravely, beautifully.
Creative Practices for an Open Heart
Try these soft spring rituals:
• Fresh palette tending: choose three colours that feel like renewal
• Outdoor sketching: let the breeze shape your marks
• Scripture journaling: write slowly, let the words bloom
• Botanical gathering: fresh leaves, petals, stems for mixed-media layers
A Faith Reflection
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10
Spring is God’s season of renewal both inside and out.
A Gentle Invitation
Open slowly. Open softly. Open with trust. Spring will meet you there.
Blessings

NEW ART
SUNFLOWER FIRELIGHT
There are moments in art that arrive unexpectedly, moments that begin in play and end in something deeply meaningful. This piece started with my 6 year old grandson sitting beside me, both of us dipping into bright reds, oranges, and golds, painting fire just for the fun of it. No plan, no pressure, just colour and joy. The next morning, I walked past the canvas and felt a tug. A quiet knowing that a sunflower needed to bloom right there over the flames. It wasn’t a thought so much as an instinct. A sunflower rising through fire. Strength meeting warmth. Joy meeting wildness.
As I painted, the petals seemed to settle into the heat, not fighting it, but growing from it. The swirling reds and golds became a backdrop of energy and movement, and the sunflower stood bold and bright at the centre — a reminder that beauty often grows from the unexpected places, the messy places, the playful places. This artwork carries the sweetness of creating beside someone you love, the spark of intuition, and the warmth of a bloom that refuses to be overshadowed. If this piece speaks to you — whether through its colour, its story, or its symbolism — you’re welcome to explore it in the gallery. It will be available on Thursday this week.
It’s a little bit fire, a little bit bloom, and a whole lot of heart.
